Amanda worked with us over a period of 18 months through a major renovation of our home. She was responsible for the interior design; for sourcing a wide range of furniture soft-furnishings and other items; for overseeing various trades (cabinetry, flooring, painting, furniture restoration, curtain making, lighting, etc.); and for helping us put the house together at the end of the project.

The house itself is an old one and was already partially furnished with wonderful family heirlooms. Amanda worked with us to create a vision and design for the house that balanced our desire for a contemporary and clean feel with keeping these heirlooms (furniture, pictures, books etc) and a sense of history and continuity. She did this extremely successfully and the house has a harmony and feel that we love.

She had a series of ideas – for instance,  reconfiguring room layouts  and spacial planning, consistent flooring throughout, opening up certain areas with glass, tonal variations in the painting, creative lighting – that made a material difference to the design and to creating an overall sense of coherence (and which we would never have thought of).

In addition to the design, Amanda did an excellent job identifying and sourcing furniture and furnishings for us. She rapidly understood our style, but pushed us to think more broadly, and looked far afield to find things that would work in this environment and with our existing furniture. She found some tremendously beautiful things which we love. What we particularly appreciated was that she was conscious of cost and often found us less expensive – but equally nice - versions of the furniture we liked, particularly for the less formal rooms of the house.

Reflecting the number of years she has been in the design business, Amanda has a strong network of very high-quality trades who she brought into the project and oversaw. We were uniformly impressed with them and the quality of their work.

Finally, and importantly, we had a very tight deadline for the completion of this project, particularly in its second ‘phase’   . Amanda did a great job delivering on this deadline which meant quite tight scheduling of different trades and deliveries, and which required flexibility and, at times, quite creative problem solving. We also want to highlight that in the final weeks, with the deadline looming, not only was Amanda (as always) a pleasure to work with, but also she really ‘mucked in’ helping unpack, clean, rearrange, carry, etc. often into the late evening. We hugely appreciated this.

On a personal level, Amanda was lovely to work with and was always available, positive and flexible.

Overall, we are delighted with how the house looks and are very appreciative of Amanda’s great work helping us create a house which we love.
